Keratin Bond
hair extensions.

An established individual-strand method for clients who know and prefer keratin bonds. We offer skilled fitting, maintenance and removal, with a careful assessment of your natural hair first.

This method needs strong natural hair and good support at the roots. It involves longer appointments and more demanding removal than the other methods we offer.

PROS & CONS · OUR SALON EXPERIENCE

A familiar method.
A bigger commitment.

Keratin bonding is a long-established extension method with loyal clients who love it. We continue to offer it for those who prefer it, while being clear about the time and demands involved.

Why some clients choose it

  • Individual placementSeparate strands allow us to tailor the colour blend and placement around an agreed hair plan.
  • A method they knowSome clients have worn keratin bonds for years and prefer the familiar attachment and feel.
  • Experienced salon supportOur team has the skills to fit, maintain and professionally remove the bonds for suitable clients.

What to weigh up

  • Our longest installation appointmentsEach bond is formed individually. The time depends on the number of bonds and the blend required.
  • Our longest maintenance processThe old bonds need removal, followed by strand preparation, re-tipping and refitting.
  • Our most difficult method to removeIn our salon experience, keratin removal is the most demanding of the methods we offer and can place additional pressure on your own hair.
  • Strong natural hair is importantThe hair supporting each bond, including at the roots, needs to cope with both wear and removal. We assess this carefully before recommending the method.

We generally prefer petite tapes for a gentler option, particularly on finer or delicate hair. We’ll explain the alternatives and help you decide what suits your own hair.

WHAT ARE KERATIN BOND EXTENSIONS?

Small sections.
Individual placement.

Each strand of extension hair has a keratin-based bonding tip. Your technician softens the tip using a professional heated tool and shapes it around a small section of your own hair. The bond sets as it cools.

Because the strands are fitted individually, we can tailor the placement and colour blend around the fullness and length you would like.

Careful sectioning and suitable strand weight matter, and removal needs particular attention. We discuss this commitment before recommending the method.

THE SINGLE-STRAND FAMILY

Keratin bonds
and micro rings.

Both add hair in individual strands. Keratin bonds use a bonding tip activated with heat; micro rings use a small ring to secure each strand.

We’ll help you compare the attachment, aftercare and refit process before deciding which method suits your hair.

CHOOSING YOUR METHOD

The right weight.
The right support.

Strong natural hair and good support at the roots are particularly important with keratin bonds. We assess condition, strength, density and coverage, including how your hair is likely to cope with fitting, wear and removal.

Because removal can put additional pressure on your own hair, this method needs more consideration than attachment size alone. Tell us about finer areas, scalp sensitivity and your usual hairstyles.

A shorter or blunter cut can need more extension hair to blend the ends. We’ll talk through the amount and whether this method is appropriate for your starting hair.

FINE OR DELICATE HAIR?

a suitable connection.

Petite tapes or Invisible Bond may be preferable for fine or delicate hair. We’ll assess the support and coverage needed before recommending individual bonds.

YOUR FITTING APPOINTMENT

  1. Assess & prepare

We confirm your hair plan, shade blend, quantity and sectioning before application. Allow for the strand preparation time when arranging your booking.

  2. Fit each bond

Your technician sections the hair, activates each tip with the heated tool and shapes the bond in the planned position.

  3. Blend & guide

We blend the finished look and explain washing, brushing, heat styling and your maintenance schedule.

In our salon, this is the method that takes longest to install. The time depends on bond count and the work needed; we confirm it before booking so you can plan for a longer appointment.

MAINTENANCE, RE-TIPPING & REMOVAL

Your bonds,
over time.

Every 6–8 weeks

Professional maintenance

As your natural hair grows, the bonds move away from the scalp. At your maintenance appointment, we assess your own hair, bond placement and the condition of the extensions.

This is our longest maintenance process and our most difficult method to remove. Removal can place additional pressure on your own hair, so we take time to release the bonds professionally with the appropriate remover before preparing and re-tipping the strands for refitting where suitable. Our Keratin Bond maintenance pricing includes re-tipping.

Individual-strand tips can lose their shape over time, which is why re-tipping is part of the refit process. Wefts and tapes do not need individual-strand re-tipping.

Around 10–12 months

Potential hair lifespan

With great care and regular professional refits, the extension hair can potentially last around 10–12 months. Its condition depends on products, colour, styling and daily care.

This describes reuse of the hair across refits. Your bonds still need regular assessment and maintenance.

Removal is a professional service. Please avoid pulling, picking or trying to break down bonds at home, and contact us about persistent discomfort, looseness or tangling.

  • Detangle gently: support the attachment area and work carefully through the lengths, starting at the ends.
  • Keep products off the bonds: apply conditioning masks and oils to the mid-lengths and ends as advised.
  • Protect the attachment area: keep straighteners and curling tools away from the bonds.
  • Dry before bed: dry the roots and attachment area thoroughly and avoid tight styles that pull on the bonds.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

A little more
about keratin bonds.

Are keratin bonds fitted with heat?

Yes. We use a professional heated tool to soften the bonding tip, then shape it around a selected section of your own hair. The bond sets as it cools. If you prefer a method without heat during fitting, ask us about tapes or micro rings.

How many bonds are in a pack?

Each HITCH Keratin Bond pack contains 25 bonds. Four packs contain 100 bonds and six packs contain 150 bonds. Your recommended quantity depends on your starting hair and desired result.

Are keratin bonds suitable for fine hair?

This method needs strong natural hair and good support at the roots, particularly because removal can put additional pressure on your own hair. We generally prefer petite tapes or Invisible Bond for fine or delicate areas. We assess suitability before recommending keratin bonds.

Why do you offer keratin bonds if you often prefer other methods?

Some clients have worn keratin bonds for years and love the familiar method. We have the skills to offer fitting, maintenance and removal for suitable clients. We also explain that it is our longest method to install and maintain, and our most demanding to remove, so you can make an informed choice.

How often do I need maintenance?

Our usual Keratin Bond maintenance interval is every 6–8 weeks, adjusted to your growth and attachment condition. Contact us sooner about looseness, discomfort or tangling.

Does maintenance include re-tipping?

Yes. Our Keratin Bond maintenance pricing includes re-tipping. The old bonds are professionally removed, the extension strands are re-tipped and suitable hair is refitted after assessment.

How long can I reuse the hair?

With great care, the hair can potentially last around 10–12 months across professional refits. This depends on its condition, colour, products and styling. It does not mean leaving the same bonds in place for that length of time.

Can I wear my hair up?

Tell us about your usual hairstyles before fitting so we can plan placement and coverage. Your natural hair affects how discreet the bonds will be. Avoid tight styles that pull on the attachments.

What does my quote include?

We quote the hair and installation separately. A wash, blow-dry and cut are included when 50 or more keratin bonds are installed or maintained. We confirm the quantity, preparation time, maintenance and any extras before booking. View the current price list.
