A very personal beginning
It began in the salon chair.
In 2008, I cut my long hair into a Rihanna-style bob. I loved the idea, but I missed my long hair and didn’t feel quite like myself. I turned to extensions, expecting a simple solution. Instead, that decision became the beginning of Hair Extension Experts.
I tried three extension systems in one year and experienced the frustrations so many clients know: hair that knotted and lost its shine, damage from unsuitable methods, and costly maintenance. I wanted to understand why finding good-quality hair and the right installation method was so difficult.
My search took me beyond online suppliers. After disappointing products and unreliable suppliers, I travelled to India, China, Germany and the USA to meet manufacturers, compare hair and learn more about the industry. Testing products and building supplier relationships helped me find options I felt confident sharing.
In 2011, I began supplying hair extensions to salons across South Africa. I also started fitting extensions for friends, then friends of friends. In 2012, I founded the Hair Extension Experts salon to bring the hair, installation and ongoing care together.
Today, that personal experience still shapes how our team works. We listen, explain the options and help each client choose a solution that suits her hair and her everyday life. I know how personal this decision can feel, because I started in the same chair.
